AFRICAN GRASSES

Herbs that heal
Grasses in the savannah
Africa is blessed with your miracles
And confident in your intimacy

When ailments grip me with cold hands
You stand in defence for me
And sacrifice much to make me live

Herbs that free
Fought for freedom
In Africa, you are respected

Your power can’t be measured
Shared similarities with Whiteman’s drugs
But differing in name

The beauties of Africa
With power to heal
In fearful nights of tams and kpoms
You stand in defence for me
You are on the mountains
And also on the hills

Oh! African grasses!
Though the farmers are out to kill you
Your maker made you stand still
Ever blushing greenness

Oh! African grasses
Where are the irokos if not you?
Africans are blessed with you
