MAMA

Mama!
The Black woman
Pride of the black soil

On the lines of my arms
Beneath the shadow of my life
You have written tales
Of your cries, pains
Between birth and death

Mama!
You bore me into earth
One, two… nine months
You walked me across
To crown me favour at birth

You welded my heart
With love and care

Mama!
The Black woman
Pride of the black soil

My thoughts
My songs
My words
Can they be reward enough
For your labour?
